Preventive Animal Care
From puppies and kittens to our geriatric patients, preventive medicine keeps your pet healthy and prolongs their lives.
Vaccination recommendations are changing rapidly. We believe in protecting your pets with vaccines, but not over vaccinating. We will tailor a program specifically for your pet.
Regular physical exams, fecal checks, heartworm testing, and routine blood screening are important for all ages. They enable us to catch problems early and treat them before your pet shows any signs of disease.
Client education is also important in preventing disease in our animal patients. This includes demonstrating brushing teeth, nutritional counseling, ear cleaning, and nail trimming.
Veterinary Dentistry
Dental disease is one of the most common health problems we see affecting companion animals. Significant dental disease is present in 80% of dogs and 70% of cats. Your pet's dental problems, such as fractured teeth, abscessed roots, gingivitis, and periodontal disease, not only cause bad breath, but can also cause pain. Regular dental exams and cleanings help improve and lengthen your pet's life. We encourage you to brush your pet's teeth at home.... ask us how!
The doctors and licensed veterinary technicians at Hartland Animal Hospital have special training in current dental cleaning and surgical techniques. A dental x-ray unit helps us to evaluate the health of your pet's mouth beyond the visible crown. Our state of the art equipment aids us in cleaning and treating your pet's teeth more effectively.
Veterinary Orthopedic Surgery
Dr. John Gumbs is a specially trained orthopedic surgeon that visits the clinic by appointment to perform the following surgeries, such as:
- Fracture repair
- ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) repair
- FHO (femoral head osteotomy)
In House Laboratory
In house equipment allows us to perform a complete evaluation of your pet's blood. Results are available the same day, often while you wait. This enables us to start your pet's treatment as soon as possible.
Pre-anesthetic blood work can be done on the day of your pet's anesthetic procedure. It helps us evaluate risk factors, and aids us in providing the safest anesthetic and medications to go home for your friend.
Pain Management
We are committed to keeping your pet as comfortable as possible. There are many new and very effective tools to help us manage your pet's pain.
We can help your pet with pain arising from the following conditions, as well as others:
- Osteoarthritis
- Cancer related pain
